The United States Patent and Trademark Office today implemented the controversial DOCX filing requirement. If a new patent application is filed in only non-DOCX format as preferred, a surcharge will be applied. For now, the USPTO provides an option for filing a concurrent backup copy, or auxiliary copy, in non-DOCX format until further notice.
